9 reasons I don’t fuck with bad people

bad people

Having a blog often means deciding which stories one’s gonna share and which they won’t. I’ll share some with you because it’s important. I have met people who have given up on the human race, making them incapable of trusting. Honestly, that’s mostly a bad thing. There are so many good people in this world, you’re really missing out while focusing on negative vibes. Also, as I keep saying, don’t be scared of traveling alone. Yes, even as a black African girl. Here goes:

  1. The other day in Benin, my Airbnb host didn’t pick up her calls or respond to my emails for whatever reason. It was my first time in the country, and my French is nowhere near perfect. I’m sitted opposite a house (the pin given on her Airbnb profile led me there), a woman comes all concerned about what I was doing there. Night time was approaching, I had my bags… really not the most comforting image. She tried calling the Airbnb lady for me to no avail. She didn’t understand the concept of the site, or what I was doing traveling alone. Still, she asked to me stay at her place. Airbnb sorted me the next day. We caught up regularly, she helped me shop for my mum on the last day and also took me to the airport. She’s still my friend.
  2. We were walking the narrow streets of Manali, India with my friends. An old-ish guy approaches us with so love and peace (these two were almost tangible, I swear). He then buys us soooo many grapes we didn’t know how to carry them. I love grapes. I will never forget his face.
  3. I fell sick in Nigeria. I was living with a young woman and her son. I get stubborn at times. Okay, lots of times. Being sick makes me extremely vulnerable. She disallowed me from living her place without first getting well, all this time taking care of me though she wasn’t obligated.
  4. The first time I went to Lushoto, I didn’t have a place booked. BTW, that’s what got me stuck to this habit. I had to buy a sim card. When traveling, get a local sim: it’s mostly cheap and makes more sense than having to rely on WI-FI. The lady there got me the sim, helped me find an awesome place to stay (these guys are now my family), and took me out for dinner. Different religions, different backgrounds, an incredible connection.
  5. I was in Dubai for my birthday this year. I know, I know lots of guys waiting for a post. I will do it soon. I generally don’t expect much from people so as to avoid disappointments. When the girls at the place I was staying learned it was my birthday, they showered me with so much love I didn’t feel like I was alone. That’s how birthdays should feel like, no?
  6. Still in Dubai, I met a guy at the Etisalat shop. I wonder what’s with me and sim-cards! Only, this time the sweet guy offered me his extra sim card. Their systems were down and I was more than happy to save 110 AED for a sim card. 110 AED! He rushed home for it, expecting nothing whatsoever in return.
  7. Well, we ended up hanging out with him and his friends. So for my birthday this year, we did salsa night. I am mostly clueless but I am the dance-like-no-one-is-watching kind of person. Still, we made a pact that the next time we go for Salsa, we’ll be good at it. Which reminds me… who here is willing to teach me?
  8. I had lots of things for my birthday but no cake. I love cake and I love my birthday. In Mombasa, a waitress at some place we were chilling hooked me up with such an amazing birthday cake, days after the day was gone. She called in favors and made it special for me. It’s not always about how much one can offer, but mostly about the thought.
  9. When I’m out in the unknown, there are people who are genuinely concerned of my safety and well-being. Sometimes I’m in strange situations, and I am comforted by that fact alone.

This post doesn’t do it; I could dedicate this blog to all the good I have encountered as I traveled. However, I gave you nine reasons. The plan was 27…. Anyway, there is too much good in this world to focus on the bad. Choose to be positive, avoid negative energy at all costs, break away from people and things that bring you down, go for those that make you a better version of yourself…

It’s 2018: this life is too volatile to fuck with bad people. To the bad people everywhere: fuck off!

Cheers to the good!

Great post @Wachera. It is very true that there are many good people in this world as much as there are bad ones (Let me save the correct word to describe them). As you said, the balance is by embracing the positive and ignoring the negative.
It is crazy sometimes how we assume the changes of being human.
    Safe travels.

Thank you. Focus is mainly given to the bad ones. I’ve encountered so much good I tear up just thinking about it.
