Let us talk nature – World Environment Day 2017

Today is World Environment Day 🙂

Once in a while I binge watch. I am very flexible when it comes to what I watch. Okay, perhaps not very. Another thing you should know about me is that I FEAR animals. That includes hens and all that stuff. I chicken out, a lot 😉 . Few weeks a good friend dropped off some movies for my binge watching session.

Ironic that I’m discussing this on such a day. Today in World Environment Day, a day set aside to appreciate nature.

This year’s theme is ‘Connecting People to Nature”. Never, in the earth’s history, have we been so disconnected to what is essentially the most important part of life.

In line with this theme, people are being asked to go out to nature and appreciate the beauty out there. When was the last time you took a walk in the neighboring nature park? Have you ever planted a tree? How does littering make you feel?

It’s a talk about nature, after all.

Imagine waking up to a world with no trees. Now think about having a world that lies in bare waste, beyond redemption.

For now, the Earth is all we got.

History is a b***h and it repeats itself. We have lost entire species of animals and plants in the past. The signs are currently there for similar eventualities 🙁

Back to my movie. Zoo is a TV Show that illustrates an “upside down” world. Instead of poachers killing game as a sport, lions and all those carnivores turned on humans. I told you about my fear of animals. The storyline behind this poorly scripted series is eye-opening, in whatever way you look at it. I don’t know about you, but I am certain I would not want such a world.

I did not complete the whole series, but what I saw was enough to stir so much thought regarding conservation and the way we treat other species.

World Environment Day thoughts

There comes a time where everyone (and everything?) snaps. We all have a limit; when we all get to say enough-is-enough. What if the ground decides there’s too much litter being released? What if the ocean and seas refused to release fish given trends like over-fishing and water pollution? How about if trees refused to shade our selfish selves? Imagine if the sun decided setting was a bad idea?

Global warming is real. Everyone has a role to play.

Unless you want to be part of the reason the only habitable place in the solar system is described as history, you need to take action.

You can choose to live under a rock, or you can decide to be part of the change.

In line with the 2017 World Environment Day, go outside and appreciate that nature has not decided to turn against us. Well, at least not on a massive scale like the unlucky guys on Zoo.

I’ll log out now and go to the beach 😛

Cheers to the outdoors!

I can’t keep calm! That’s probably the worst tag line ever, but it’s true. I have tried finding fulfilment from settling down and focusing on one activity and place, but I failed terribly. Okay, I should probably start by telling you who I am. My name is Wachera, a daughter of the African soil. Just recently, I realized that Wachera is native for “the one who loves travelling” .
